TERMS OF USE
Using Sumire
These are the terms for using Sumire: what it does, what it can't promise, what's yours, and what happens while it's in beta.
Read this first
Sumire is in private beta. It's built and run by one person, it's free, and no payment is taken. It may change, break or stop, and the beta will end. Please treat it as an early version you're helping to shape.
Sumire can't guarantee any career result, and what it writes is produced with AI, so it can be wrong. Check anything before you rely on it or share it.
1Who these terms are with
Sumire isn't a registered company yet. It's run by Luís Osório, an individual based in France. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean him, and "you" means the person using Sumire.
How Sumire handles your data is set out in the privacy page, which is part of these terms.
2Agreeing to these terms
When you create an account, you're asked to agree to these terms and the privacy page. If you don't agree, please don't use Sumire.
You must be 18 or over. Sumire is for your own working life, as an adult, and not for use on behalf of a company.
3What Sumire does
Sumire is a companion for your career record. You tell it about your work on WhatsApp, as it happens. It asks a question or two to fill the gaps, and the Sumire app turns what you've said into a record: your stories, the skills they show, the people involved, and what your work adds up to over time.
When it matters, it helps you use that record: preparing for a review, a salary conversation, an interview or a promotion, and noticing patterns across your work. It does this by showing you what you've told it, in order. It suggests; you decide.
4What Sumire can't promise
No guaranteed outcome. Sumire can't promise a promotion, a raise, a job, a better review or any other result. Those depend on your employer, your manager, budgets, timing and many things Sumire has no part in.
AI can make mistakes. Sumire uses AI models to turn your messages into stories, summaries, titles, patterns and suggestions. It checks the output in code so your record only contains what you said, but no check is perfect: something can still be missing, misread or worded in a way you wouldn't choose. Treat everything as a draft to check, and correct it in the app or on WhatsApp.
Not professional advice. Sumire doesn't give legal, financial, employment, tax or career advice. A suggestion such as "You could bring this up" is a prompt to think, not a recommendation you have to follow.
What you say is your choice. You decide what to share with your employer or anyone else, and how. The figure you ask for in a salary conversation is always yours to choose.
5Your account
- Use your own name, email address and WhatsApp number, and keep them up to date.
- One account per person. Don't share it, and don't create one for someone else.
- Keep access to your email and phone safe: they're how you sign in. If you think someone else has got into your account, tell us straight away.
- You're responsible for what's sent from your account.
6Your record is yours
You own what you send and the record built from it. You give us permission to store and process it only to run Sumire for you: to build your record, show it to you, and help you use it. That permission ends when you delete your account.
Your record is never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared with your employer. The services that help run Sumire, such as the AI providers, are listed on the privacy page, and none of them may use your data to train their models.
You can delete your account, and your whole record with it, at any time in the app.
7What you send
Sumire is for your own record of your own work. Please:
- Don't send confidential or commercially sensitive information: trade secrets, unreleased results, client data, passwords, or anything covered by a confidentiality agreement with your employer. Describe what you did and what changed, in your own words, without the secrets.
- Only send what you have the right to share.
- Keep it to work. Sumire isn't the place for health, financial or other private details about yourself or anyone else.
You're responsible for what you choose to send. If something slips through, you can correct it or delete it, or write to us and we'll help.
8The people you mention
Your stories naturally include colleagues, managers and clients. Keep to what your record needs: who they are and the part they played. Don't include anything sensitive about them, and don't use Sumire to keep a file on someone, to monitor them, or to build a case against them.
You can remove anyone from your record at any time in the app.
9Using Sumire fairly
Please don't:
- use Sumire for anything unlawful, or to harass, deceive or harm anyone;
- pretend to be someone else, or use a phone number or email address that isn't yours;
- send spam, malicious code, or large amounts of automated messages;
- try to get into anyone else's account or data, or into the systems that run Sumire;
- copy, take apart or rebuild the app, or try to extract its prompts or code, except where the law allows it;
- overload or disrupt the service, or get around its limits.
10WhatsApp
Sumire talks to you through WhatsApp, which is run by Meta. Using it also means using WhatsApp, under WhatsApp's own terms. We don't control WhatsApp and can't promise it will always be available or deliver every message.
Sumire only messages you in the ways you've chosen in the app, and you can change how often at any time. Your usual mobile and data charges apply.
11Petals
You earn petals as you use Sumire, and you can spend them on looks in the app, such as backgrounds, icons and colours. They only change how Sumire looks, never what it does for you.
Petals have no money value. They can't be bought, sold, exchanged for money or moved to another account. We may change what petals unlock, or how many things cost. Petals end when your account is deleted or the beta ends.
12Sumire's own work
The app, the website, the name, the violet flower, the design and the writing are ours. We give you a personal, free right to use the app while your account is open, under these terms. That right can't be passed on.
If you send us ideas or feedback, thank you: we may use them to improve Sumire without owing you anything, and we won't attach your name or your record to them without asking.
13The beta, changes and ending
While Sumire is in beta, features will come, change and sometimes go. We may pause it for maintenance or fix things without warning.
The beta will end. When it does, we'll tell you by email at least 30 days ahead, whenever we can. Your data will then be deleted as the privacy page explains, unless you tell us you want to keep your account.
If Sumire ever becomes a paid product, nothing will be charged unless you clearly agree to it first. Being in the beta never commits you to paying.
14Closing your account
You can leave at any time: in the app, open your account, then "Your data and privacy", then "Delete my account". Your record is deleted straight away, and we email you a confirmation. You can also write to us and we'll do it for you.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or to protect other people or the service. Unless it's urgent or the law prevents it, we'll tell you why first and give you a chance to respond.
15Responsibility and liability
Sumire is free and in beta, and it's provided as it is. We do our best to keep it working and your record safe, but we can't promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or right in everything it writes.
So, as far as the law allows, we're not responsible for:
- career decisions you or anyone else make based on Sumire, or results you hoped for, such as a job, promotion or raise;
- what you choose to send to Sumire, or to share from it;
- losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen, or indirect losses;
- problems caused by WhatsApp, your phone, your internet connection or other services outside our control.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow us to limit, including for harm caused intentionally or through gross negligence, or for injury. If you live in the EU, you keep every right your country's consumer law gives you, and these terms don't take any of them away.
16If you got Sumire from Apple
If you installed the Sumire app through Apple's App Store or TestFlight, these terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for the app or its content, for support or maintenance, for any warranty, or for any claims about it, including claims that it breaks the law or someone else's rights. You also agree to Apple's own terms for using apps. Apple and its subsidiaries can enforce these terms as a third party.
17Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Sumire grows. If a change matters, we'll tell you by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, unless the law or a safety issue requires sooner. If you don't agree, you can delete your account before then. The date at the top shows the latest version.
18Law and disagreements
These terms are governed by French law. If you live elsewhere in the EU, you keep the protection of your own country's consumer law, and you can bring a claim in your country's courts.
If something goes wrong, please write to us first: most things can be fixed quickly. If we can't settle it together, you can go to the courts.
